International AI Hackathon for Women Successfully Held at BTU under the AI4GLOBE Initiative

On July 16–18, 2025, Business and Technology University (BTU) hosted the International AI Hackathon for Women and Girls, in partnership with the iamtheCODE AI Institute and with support from UN Women Georgia. The event was held as part of AI4GLOBE, BTU’s flagship initiative promoting global AI literacy and inclusive innovation.

Designed to empower young women in the tech sector, the hackathon welcomed 100 participants from across Georgia, including students, graduates, early-career professionals, and refugee women. The event combined technical training with leadership development, innovation, and the promotion of the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) through responsible AI.

Hackathon Theme: AI for Good

The central theme of the hackathon was “How can AI be used for Good in Advancing the SDGs?” Participants worked in teams to address real-world challenges and propose AI-based solutions using the iamtheCODE iDEA curriculum. They explored how artificial intelligence can be harnessed to tackle global issues aligned with the SDGs.

Topics included:

  • Understanding and integrating the SDGs into technology projects

  • Applying Design Thinking to social challenges

  • Developing AI tools and bots

  • Exploring generative AI and responsible innovation

  • Team collaboration and project presentation

AI4GLOBE: Driving Inclusivity in AI

The hackathon was an integral part of AI4GLOBE’s mission to strengthen AI capacity across diverse communities — particularly among underrepresented groups such as women and refugees. The AI4GLOBE initiative at BTU focuses on promoting AI literacy across four key pillars: youth and children, women, academia, and small businesses.

With the launch of the iamtheCODE AI Institute housed at BTU, the hackathon also marked a milestone in creating a sustainable regional hub for AI and STEAMED (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, Mathematics, Entrepreneurship, Design) education.
